I grew up in a flat above my father’s photo lab in Porto, which means I learned the smell of fixer before I learned to ride a bike.

After ten years at a daily newspaper — elections, floods, football, the occasional royal visit — I started photographing weddings for friends. It turned out a wedding is just the best kind of news story: real people, real stakes and no second takes.

Today I split my year between weddings, portrait commissions and one long personal project. Everything is edited by me, printed by me, and delivered with a handwritten note.

Slow is a decision. So is kindness.
